The Group Project - 'TRAIL'

During the past couple of weeks we have all been working on our group projects all getting ready to pitch our ideas to a panel; similar to how we pitched out radio shows but this time we are pitching a short film.
For this assignment I am working in a group with Simon and Aleicia, which I thought was good because we all have different skills in which we are good at, and can all bring them to the group to work well as a team. However saying that I don’t feel our group got off to a good start, as we had very little group meetings where we have all been present, which I have found makes it difficult to work together because we are having to communicate via e-mail and phone which hasn’t always been successful.

When we first started brainstorming ideas for the project it was only Simon and I at the meeting, which was o.k. Because we did come up with an idea which was to make a documentary. The documentary was going to be based upon how to make a stop-motion animation. But the meeting didn’t last too long as Simon had to leave and very little was discussed about the documentary’s potential. I personally also felt a bit awkward as I felt every member of the group should be involved in deciding on an idea. But the same situation happened the following day but this time Simon was unable to make the meeting but Aleicia could, so we continued to brainstorm some more ideas and finally decided to make a short mystery thriller. Although Simon wasn’t present we had to go ahead with the idea as we all needed to begin planning for the pitch. Together Aleicia and I began working on a brief and treatment.

The short film is titled ‘TRAIL’ and is a mystery thriller that depicts the mystery of one man’s psychological torture. There are two main characters in it a boy and a girl of which the boy, Kyle cast the viewer’s minds’ back to the time of when his character was attacked. This is done through the form of a flashback. At the time it is unknown to the viewers and Karl who the culprit is, but the mystery is unveiled piece by piece with clues throughout the film.

Aleicia and I divided the rest of the paper work between us. During this meeting we allocated each other job roles within the group. I was given the role of Researcher and Director. Aleicia is the Producer and Editor of the project and Simon is the Story-board Illustrator.

THE DAY OF THE PITCH

To be honest I was a little nervous before the pitch because I felt we hadn’t spent enough time together as a group to discuss the whole structure of the pitch as one group member was always missing, although I do think we were well organised in having all the paper-work up together.
All though our group pasted the pitch successful and are able to continue with our idea, I was a little disappointed in the way the pitch went. To begin with the panel didn’t fully understand our short film idea so we had to explain it again in more depth, which was o.k. And eventually I think the panel understood it a little more, all providing us with some positive suggestions on how to make the film look and feel edgy, to help set the mood of the film.
I personally have confidence in our idea, and feel if we all work well together as a group we will be able to make this short film successfully.

This is a good honest description of the events as I remember them.
